Nutmegging, also known as "megging" or "panna", is a technique used in soccer or football where a player passes or dribbles the ball through an opponent's legs. The term "nutmeg" is believed to have originated in England, where nutmeg is a spice commonly grated or ground and the act of passing the ball between the legs of an opponent is considered to be as embarrassing as being caught out by the aroma of nutmeg. The nutmegging technique is often used as a means of surprising an opponent, gaining an advantage or showing off skills. It is also a prominent feature in street football and freestyle soccer.
